The easiest way to distinguish Carpenter Bees from Bumblebees is to look at the upper surface of the abdomen. If it lacks dense hairs and looks smooth and shiny, it's a Carpenter Bee. In Florida, if it's a Carpenter Bee around 20mm or more, it's of the genus Xylocopa.
