Nectar is rich in sugar and provides for the very high energy demands of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird's metabolism. But nectar is mostly water; the excess must go for more to be taken in! This one is sipping from Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia) in my Frogmore Farm front yard.
